Daryl Ansell — founding chiropractor with over 40 years of experience serving Townsville
Daryl Ansell is the founder and principal chiropractor at Ansell Chiropractic Centre in Mundingburra, one of Townsville’s longest-established chiropractic practices.
A graduate of RMIT University, Daryl has more than 40 years of clinical experience assessing and managing spine, joint, headache, posture and musculoskeletal conditions. His work has been shaped by decades of hands-on clinical practice, professional leadership and community involvement in Townsville.
Daryl is an AHPRA-registered practitioner and a member of the AAustralian Chiropractors Association (ACA). His approach is patient-centred and evidence-informed, with a strong focus on careful assessment, clear explanations, safe technique selection and referral for imaging or medical review when clinically indicated.

Daryl has particular experience assessing and managing spine-related and musculoskeletal conditions commonly seen in chiropractic practice, including:
- Low back pain — including acute episodes, recurring muscular pain, disc-related conditions, and postural contributors
- Neck pain
- headaches of cervical origin,
- whiplash-associated disorders
- Sports and workplace injuries
- Shoulder, hip, and knee complaints
- Pain management for older patients and those managing chronic conditions

His clinical approach includes history taking, orthopaedic and neurological assessment where appropriate, movement testing, red flag screening, clear explanation of findings, and referral for imaging or medical review when clinically indicated.
Qualifications & Training
Daryl completed his Bachelor of Science at Monash University in 1978, followed by a Bachelor of Applied Science (Chiropractic) from RMIT University in 1982.
He moved to Townsville immediately upon graduation to establish Ansell Chiropractic Centre — and has been serving the Townsville and North Queensland community ever since.
He is experienced across a broad range of manual and low-force chiropractic techniques, including:
- Gonstead technique
- Diversified technique
- Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT)
- Activator Methods and Impulse instrument-assisted adjusting
- Thompson drop-piece technique
Clinical Philosophy
Daryl’s approach is patient-centred and evidence-informed. He takes time at each consultation to understand not just the presenting complaint, but the lifestyle, work demands, and history behind it.
Treatment is tailored to the individual, with a focus on improving function, reducing pain, and supporting long-term outcomes. His philosophy has remained consistent throughout his career: listen carefully, explain clearly, and help people return to normal activities with confidence.
Serving Townsville for Over Four Decades
Ansell Chiropractic Centre has been part of the Townsville community since 1982. Based in Mundingburra, the clinic cares for patients from across Townsville, including nearby suburbs such as Aitkenvale, Annandale, Hyde Park, Hermit Park, Kirwan and Cranbrook.
Daryl has treated multiple generations of local families, reflecting long-term trust within the community.
Professional Roles & Leadership
Daryl has held significant professional roles throughout his career. He served on the Chiropractors and Osteopaths Board of Queensland, and later the Chiropractors Board of Queensland, for over 10 years.
Notably, he was the first North Queensland chiropractor appointed to the registration board, reflecting the trust placed in his clinical judgement and professional standing.
He has also served the Australian Chiropractors Association (ACA) as North Queensland Regional Coordinator and Media Liaison Officer, helping represent the profession and educate the public about evidence-based chiropractic care.
Community Involvement
Daryl’s commitment to Townsville extends well beyond the clinic. He has been actively involved in local service organisations, community projects, and sporting groups for many years.
He was a long-standing member of the Townsville Apex Club, eventually serving as club president and being granted life membership — an honour reflecting years of voluntary service. He is currently a member of Rotary Townsville and was President of the Townsville Pony Club for over a decade.
Daryl has played a key role in the Rotary Club of Townsville’s 50/50 raffle, helping to establish the concept and supporting its operation over the past five years. He has volunteered both his time and the resources of Ansell Chiropractic Centre, with the raffle run directly from his clinic. The initiative has raised nearly $250,000 for local charities and community projects, making a meaningful contribution to the Townsville community.
About Daryl
Originally from Victoria, Daryl moved to Townsville in 1982 and has called it home ever since. He and his wife Eileen have raised their family here — both daughters have gone on to build careers and continue to call Townsville home.
After four decades, Daryl remains as invested in his patients’ outcomes as he was when he first opened the doors of Ansell Chiropractic Centre. His approach has always been the same: listen carefully, explain clearly, and help people return to normal activities with confidence.
